Monica completed her M.Sc. degree at the University of Victoria, where she studied trematodes in marine snails at the beautiful Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre on the west coast of Vancouver Island. For her Ph.D. she is sticking with snails and trematodes, but in freshwater wetlands rather than the ocean.
